Owning an expensive saree may be every woman's dream. Classy sarees take tradition to a new level by blending it with innovation, and thereby, optimizing the style quotient. Usually, the most expensive sarees are ‘silk sarees' which are woven in designs of gold or silver, bead work or embroidery, prints or graphic drawings, etc. Bollywood beauties are particularly known for wearing expensive sarees to get a fancy and glam look. Madhuri Dixit's purple-blue saree costing Rs 1.5 lakh in the movie ‘Hum Apke Hain Kaun' sold like hot cakes in local Indian markets. She wore it with an open back fancy blouse in the song ‘Didi tera dewar deewana'. Indian textiles company ‘Chennai Silks' takes the credit of making the costliest saree that is made of twelve kinds of precious stones and metals. Its price has been estimated at about Rs. 40 lakhs. There are 11 popular paintings by Raja Ravi Verma woven in it. The prominently projected painting in the saree was the Lady Musician's famous work. Ten other paintings by the same artist were also woven by the designer on the borders of the saree in his bid to pay tribute to the 20th century artist. Some of the most precious jewels, such as, gold, diamond, platinum, silver, ruby, emerald, yellow sapphire, sapphire, cat`s eye, topaz, pearl and corals have also been used. During the weaving process of some 4680 hours, some 7440 jacquard hooks and 66794 cards were required to complete the work. The saga of classy and costly sarees does not end with only buying it. In fact, it starts then, because they need maintenance. It's better to buy a saree pouch than wrapping them up in any plastic cover. Avoid piling, and spraying perfume directly onto the fabric may leave an indelible stain that can spoil the color of the beads and threads. If a saree pouch is not available, then your precious piece of cloth can be preserved by gently wrapping in a ‘kora' cloth. Using too many saree pins should also be avoided.
