Foreign ministers of the member countries of the Riyadh-based Gulf Cooperation Council will hold their 112th ordinary meeting in Jeddah on Sept. 1, under the chairmanship of Oman's Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs Yousef Bin Alawi Abdullah. In a statement regarding the agenda of the meeting, Abdulrahman Bin Hamad Al-Atiyyah, the Secretary General of the GCC, said the ministers will have important talks during the two-day meeting. They will review recent developments of the GCC in preparation for their ministerial meeting which will pave the way for the GCC summit scheduled to be held in Kuwait in December, Al-Atiyyah said, adding that the ministers will also tackle issues pertaining to economy, planning, development, agriculture, information technology, the power grid and the collective usage of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. He said the meeting will also review reports on ways of combating swine flu in the region as well as regional issues including the UAE's Iranian-occupied islands, food and water security, the financial crisis, pre-emptive measures to combat terrorism in GCC member states, and situations in Palestine, Darfur, Iran, Lebanon, Iraq, Somalia and Yemen.
