FG chief: Yemen borders most problematic
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 26 - 04 - 2008

The Frontier Guards have thwarted attempts for smuggling half a ton of explosives, 18 hand grenades and six rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) into the Kingdom.
Those are usually the weapons of choice in terrorist attacks on buildings and cars.
Lt. General Talal Mohsen Angqawi, Director General of Frontier Guards, said in an interview that the contrabands, which also included 40 dynamite sticks, 52 pieces of various weapons and 49,928 kilograms of ammunition had been seized over the past four months in various checkpoints across the Kingdom's boarders.
Moreover, Anqawi said the vigilance of officers had helped them arrest 723 smugglers and 106,000 infiltrators, besides seizing 58,000 narcotic pills, about three tons of hashish and confiscating more than 248 mobile phones during the same period.
Although the authorities in the Frontier Guards didn't reveal the names and directions of the borders where most of the smugglers come from, the southern borders separating the Kingdom and Yemen occupy the first position in terms of the number of infiltrators and smuggled contrabands.
The Kingdom's southern borders are distinguished for their rugged geographic nature, contours and vast area.
Last year the security forces in the Kingdom had arrested 18 suspected terrorists led by a Yemeni, and who had a missile launcher with them. They were planning to attack strategic oil facilities so as to create chaos and destabilize the country.
Meanwhile, Minister of Interior Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz has agreed to chair the National Anti- Narcotic Committee.
Within his efforts to combat the drug menace, Prince Naif has signed an important cooperation agreement with the National Philanthropic Fund, under which the Fund finances rehabilitation and training of drug addicts who recovered in preparation to integrate in the society and enter the labor market.
Earlier, Prince Naif had referred to a foreign plan aiming at draining the Kingdom's financial resources through drug trafficking.
He also warned about the targeting of the Saudi youth by foreign circles by dragging their legs into the abyss of narcotics. – Okaz. __
