Published in The Saudi Gazette on 25 - 07 - 2009

World number one Dinara Safina charged into the Slovenia Open semifinals by crushing Italian Maria Elena Camerin 6-3, 6-0 on Friday.
“I raised my level in the second set. I played much better, much more aggressive ... I was very focused today and played some good tennis,” the Russian told Slovenian Sport television.
Safina never looked back after reeling off the first three games of the match.
Camerin, 100th in the rankings, had no chance as her powerful opponent kept up her record of not dropping a set in the tournament.
Safina next faces Italy's Alberta Brianti after she put out France's Camille Pin 6-3 6-2.
Swiss Stefanie Voegele ousted Rossana De Los Rios of Paraguay 6-1, 6-1 and next meets holder Sara Errani of Italy who breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Croatia's Petra Martic.
Cuevas stuns Almagro
In Berlin, Uruguayan qualifier Pablo Cuevas reached his second tour semifinal of what looks to be his breakthrough season on Friday when he swept past Spaniard Nicolas Almagro 6-2, 6-4 at the German Open in Hamburg.
Cuevas will meet Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu who led 3-0 in the first set against Viktor Troicki before the Serb retired with a foot injury.
World number 107 Cuevas sailed through the first set, his lethal topspin backhand landing him two breaks against an opponent ranked 67 places above him.
The 2008 French Open doubles champion then got the break he wanted in the fifth game of the second set, saving two break points in the next game to hold serve and go 4-2 up.
The 23-year-old comfortably held on to his lead to win the match four games later.
In the other half of the draw, second seed Nikolay Davydenko edged past Romanian Victor Hanescu 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to book his spot in the last four where he meets Spaniard David Ferrer.
Sixth seed Ferrer was the last man to clinch his semifinal spot ousting German wild card entrant Simon Greul 6-2, 6-3.
Dancevic beats Tursunov
Frank Dancevic ended a run of three straight losses to Dmitry Tursunov when he beat the top seed 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 to reach the semifinals of the ATP hardcourt event in Indianapolis Friday. Russian Tursunov had beaten the Canadian in the final on grass at Eastbourne.
Dancevic will next play Sam Querrey of the US who beat Marc Gicquel of France 6-4, 7-5.
Robby Ginepri of the US also advanced beating compatriotAlex Bogomolov Jr. 7-5, 6-1.
On Thursday, Tursunov had eased into the quarterfinals beating Marcos Daniel 6-3, 6-3.
Second seeded Israeli Dudi Sela converted only one seven break points on his way to a 6-4, 7-6 loss to Russian-born qualifier Alex Bogomolov, while American Wayne Odesnik recovered to beat fourth seeded Russian Igor Kunitsyn 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Former champion Tursunov's routine win over Brazil's Daniel set up a last-eight encounter against familiar foe Frank Dancevic, who advanced with a 6-2, 7-5 over fifth-seeded Benjamin Becker of Germany.
Third seeded American Sam Querrey also booked a spot in the last eight with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over compatriot Rajeev Ram.
