Picturesque beauty of Gwadar
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 19 - 06 - 2009

GAWADAR district, having 600 kilometers long coast line and un-irrigated tracts of Kulanch and Dasht valleys, is one of the most important coastal towns of Pakistan besides being the biggest fishing center in the entire coastal belt of Baluchistan.
At present Gwadar is considered to be one of the main centers of human activities in Baluchistan where socio-cultural programs are organized. Because of its closer affinity with the Gulf and increased traffic between the Gulf and Pakistan, it was upgraded as an international airport in 1970, connecting Muscat and Karachi. This is one place that attracted the attention of the Arabian Peninsular countries for centuries.
Ormara is a port city located 230 km east of Gwadar on the Arabian Sea,in the Makran or coastal region of the Baluchistan province of Pakistan. Most of the population of Ormara is Muslim. It has a port and fish harbor. The Jinnah Naval Base of Pakistan Navy is also located here.
Moreover, Pasni is a medium-sized town and a fishing port in Gwadar. It is located on the Makran coast on Arabian Sea about 300 km from Karachi. Administratively, Pasni is a sub-division of Gwadar district and includes Pasni and Ormara Tehsils (tehsil - county) as well as Astola Island, in the Arabian Sea.
An unexplored Harappan-era settlement known as Sokhta Koh is tucked away in the low hills, about 25 km north of Pasni. It is conjectured that this was an ancient Harappan outpost, which traded luxury wares with Mesopotamia and Persian Gulf settlements.
Also, if you enjoy watching the sunset, Jiwani is the right place for you. When the sun touches the sea water in the evening, it fosters the excitement in people. Tourists from all over the world pay visits to these cities and enjoy a daily stroll along the white sands of the renowned Virgin beach; or you can also swim and surf in the warm blue sea.

Its unspoiled beaches with wild birds and the simplicity of the natives are equally relaxing to mind and body. The surrounding has abundance of fresh air as one crosses the dense forests to reach the destination.
Ormara beach is one of the biggest artificial lakes and is divided by the coastal highway, which is the sight of migratory birds and is a heaven for bird watchers.
The Jinnah naval base of Pakistan Navy is located at Ormara. Being an isolated town, it remained undeveloped, however with the naval presence around, life has taken a positive change for the locals.
