A single expatriate man seeking to renew his Iqama (residency permit) discovered his life was a little more complicated than he thought at the Passports Department in Madina, for he was told that not only was he married with six children, but that to proceed any further with his request he would have to settle the small matter of 70 traffic violations in his name. The infractions were attributed to five cars and a motorcycle purported to be owned by Hussein Al-Balochi, despite his having not driven a car for over 20 years. All Al-Balochi's protestations to the contrary fell on deaf ears, as he was told he would have to pay the fines to have his Iqama renewed, and consult with the General Directorate of Passports in Riyadh on the matter of his mysterious spouse and offspring. The Director of Traffic Administration in Madina has, however, written to the General Directorate of Passports in Riyadh asking them to clarify the issue.
