A-Rod makes perfect response
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 27 - 05 - 2009

Alex Rodriguez had a perfect response for the hearty boos, matching a career high with five hits to lead the New York Yankees to an 11-1 victory over the Texas Rangers in the American League on Monday.
Rodriguez also drove in four runs in his first game in Texas since admitting earlier this year that he used steroids while playing for the Rangers from 2001-03. Phil Hughes tossed eight shutout innings for New York, which has won 11 of 13.
After singling in the eighth inning in his fifth at-bat, A-Rod was lifted for a pinch runner with the Yankees already up 10-0. His first five-hit game since April 2005 raised his batting average 60 points – from .189 to .259.
Hughes (3-2) allowed three hits, walked one and struck out six before leaving after 101 pitches.
Nelson Cruz connected against Yankees reliever Alfredo Aceves in the ninth, hitting his fifth homer in six games.
Matt Harrison (4-4) allowed seven runs and 11 hits over five innings for Texas.
Red Sox 6, Twins 5: At Minneapolis, Jason Bay and Kevin Youkilis hit two-run doubles as Boston started a 10-game road trip with a victory over Minnesota.
Jonathan Papelbon survived a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth by pinch-hitter Joe Mauer to get his 12th save.
Michael Cuddyer homered early for Minnesota, but Brad Penny (5-1) pitched into the sixth for his third straight victory.
Mike Lowell, who had four hits, capped the three-run third off Liriano with an RBI single.
Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits for Boston to stretch his hitting streak to 20 games.
Other results: Tigers 13, Royals 1; Orioles 4, Blue Jays 1; Athletics 6, Mariners 1; Indians 11, Rays 10; White Sox 17, Angels 3.
Hall lifts Brewers
Bill Hall hit a two-out, RBI single in the 10th inning to lift the Milwaukee Brewers to a 1-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League on Monday.
Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter took a perfect game into the seventh inning, and the Brewers' Yovani Gallardo carried a no-hitter into the sixth before each finished allowing just two hits over eight innings.
Milwaukee closer Trevor Hoffman pitched a perfect ninth and Carlos Villanueva (2-3) the 10th for the Brewers, setting up Hall's dramatics off St. Louis' Kyle McClellan (2-2).
Casey McGehee reached on an error by third baseman Brian Barden to lead off the 10th. Prince Fielder was intentionally walked one out later and after a fielder's choice, Hall drove McClellan's pitch to right-center field and wasted no time touching first base before sprinting back in the dugout and into the clubhouse.
Other results:
Padres 9, Diamondbacks 7, 10 innings; Dodgers 16, Rockies 6; Reds 8, Astros 5; Giants 8, Braves 2; Marlins 5, Phillies 3; Mets 5, Nationals 2; Pirates 10, Cubs 8.
