The Shariah Court in Khamis Mushayt sentenced to nine month's prison on Tuesday a man whose wife tortured her housemaid to death for his failure to take action. The man was charged with negligence and ignoring the Indonesian housemaid when she refused to eat in protest at the beatings she was suffering at the hands of his wife. The man has already served six months of his sentence while awaiting trial, and his teacher wife, charged with manslaughter, is scheduled to be sentenced on July 14. Lawyers expect the wife, who has been detained in Abha Prison for 11 months, to receive more than two years in prison. The private right was settled after the housemaid's parents in Indonesia accepted blood money as approved by the Kingdom's embassy in Indonesia.
