The owner of a transport company has complained to human rights groups that the municipality here demolished the depot he had rented for 30 years without prior warning, incurring damage to furnishings and other property. “I strongly object to the municipality's actions. They destroyed all the contents of the depot without giving me any notification,” said Mohammad Saleh Al-Arishi, the owner of the company. A public relations official from Jizan Municipality said that the demolition followed instructions from the Emir of Jizan to “remove all buildings on the area of land in question to pave the way for proper planning of the zone and the sale of land in accordance with the law.”
