Two young women survived after attempting to commit suicide in order to escape the violence inflicted on them by their father. The sisters, aged 22 and 20, reportedly tried to take an overdose of pills on Saturday and were rescued by staff at King Abdullah Hospital here. According to their mother, the girls suffered repeated beatings at the hands of their father, who would also throw them out of the house and “make their lives unlivable.” The mother reported the incident to police, accusing the girls' father of violent abuse and torture. Statements were also taken from the girls themselves who confirmed the accusations and said they did not wish to live with him. The girls remain in hospital in Bisha and efforts are being made to have them transferred to Al-Naqaha Hospital should they reject a return to their home.
