Talk N Text Tropang Texters salvaged a 124-122 win over the Alaska Aces Friday night in the 2009 Motolite PBA Fiesta Conference at the Cuneta Astrodome after blowing a 19-point lead early in the fourth quarter.
But thanks to Macmac Cardona's heroics at the finish, the Texters avoided another heartbreaker as they scored only their second win in five games.
Alaska suffered a second straight defeat and fell to a 2-5 win-loss record
Cardona came through with a three-point play and a triple in the closing seconds to bail out his team.
In the first game, the Sta. Lucia Realtors let loose a downpour of three-point shots to drench Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 109-100.
The win enabled Sta. Lucia to tie Rain or Shine for second place in the standings, both with a 5-2 win-loss card, just behind the pacesetting San Miguel Beermen (6-0).
The loss snapped the Painters' three-game winning streak heading to the Philippine-Australia Goodwill series and Lenten break.
Meanwhile, the Barako Bull Energy Boosters hopes to add defending champion Barangay Ginebra Kings to their growing list of upset victims as the two teams collide on the road Saturday. The Barako Bull battles the skidding Ginebra in the lone game in Panabo City in Davao.
Barako Bull carries a 2-4 record, while Ginebra just a notch below at the bottom with a 1-5 mark.
The two wins the Energy Boosters registered were opposite the heavyweights Alaska Aces and Philippine Cup titlist Talk N Text Tropang Texters.
In contrast, the Kings are on a downswing, losing their last five outings including a 95-80 setback against league leader San Miguel Beer Wednesday night.
