The man was detained after he complained to local police that his 22-year-old son had set fire to his car, but when the son was summoned to the station he informed them of his five years of imprisonment, a fact later confirmed by neighbors. An Eastern Province police spokesman said investigators described the room as three meters long and two meters wide, and fitted with nothing but an unhygienic toilet and an iron door with a small opening through which food and water were passed. The son, who was first locked up by his father at the age of 17, was examined by specialists who say he had gone through intense physical and mental suffering. Police are expected to charge all members of the family with failing to report the incident.
