Mazola plans expansion and factory upgrades
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 22 - 09 - 2015

MAZOLA has pioneered good health and healthy eating through its range of cooking products for over 100 years and across the GCC, with total consumer sales amount around AED500 million. Each of Mazola's products is designed to deliver the healthiest and purest experience for the customers which is highlighted in their new brand message, “from the heart of nature” which resonates with Mazola's customers and embodies the brand's vision and production values.
This philosophy starts right from sourcing the right ingredients. The primary ingredient of Mazola products is corn whereby the corn germ contains around 85 percent of the total oil in the seed. Mazola pure Corn Oil does not add any antioxidants or preservatives, as antioxidants are naturally present in the brand's oil, which is also a rich source of Vitamin. Since oils are known to react chemically when exposed to light and air, Mazola uses a unique yellow colored HDPE bottles which protects the corn oil for the benefit of the consumers.
Mazola has recently been working with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority to improve pack information and ensure that all its products follow their strict guidelines. This is no big issue for Mazola, who even with a total of 30,000 MT production per year, has always held quality and product ethics at the forefront of its values.
With all these processes in place to ensure the purest products, Mazola's priority is also to ensure a safe environment for its employees. The company has made significant additions within their Saudi factory's safety operation and additional specialized staff has joined the manufacturing plant to further monitor the safety controls at their expanding Yanbu plant.
The plant also continues to upgrade equipment with the most modern and efficient equipment including a multi-million dollar investment in a new bottling and filling line from world first class suppliers in Japan and France. The equipment is being made especially to Mazola high level of personalized specifications to truly meet their vision of ‘from the heart of nature'.
“While some parts of this process are the industry-standard, we ensure that the entire process is executed in a way to yield the most natural form of corn oil”, said Simon Gottfried, vice president, Middle East & North Africa. “This method of production and the philosophy of “from the heart of nature' is crucial to all of Mazola's products, including Mazola Corn Oil, Mazola Mayonnaise, Mazola ghee, etc.” he added.
Mazola has not only been working on upgrading their factory but has also moved beyond its heritage of corn oil to appeal to new trends. The manufacturer is No. 2 brand of corn oil in Kuwait, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia as well as having similar brand leadership for Mazola's mayonnaise range in Kuwait, Jordan and the Kingdom.
In 2015, Mazola was awarded the Product of the Year Award (POY) in the Middle East for its Mazola sunflower oil in the consumer cooking oil category. POY is an award that rewards innovation in the FMCG sector and it is also the only award to be voted for by consumers themselves, through an independent consumer survey. This is Mazola's second win in three years of participation as back in 2013, Mazola's Mayonnaise Lite and flavors had won the Product of the Year Award in the mayonnaise category. — SG
