JEDDAH — A Saudi businesswoman is on trial for allegedly killing her maid by beating her and starving her. A source reported that the woman was arrested and is now in Braiman Prison. “The maid was admitted to a hospital and reports showed signs of bruises and abuse on her body. She was also 30 kg underweight. Her sponsor is a businesswoman who is accused of starving and beating her maid,” said the source. The source also said the maid stayed in the hospital for a week before her death. “Doctors tried everything to resuscitate the maid but her body was severely abused. Her sponsor claimed the bruises on the maid's body were caused by her tripping down the stairs in her attempt to escape. She also said the maid has always been this skinny as she was a drug addict,” said the source. He added that the case was among the cruelest incidents of maid abuse during the past four years. “Four years ago, there was a man in his forties who was nicknamed the housemaids killer in Yanbu. He killed three maids and was executed a year and a half ago,” said the source.
