DED simplifies fine settlement for business establishments
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 20 - 08 - 2015

DUBAI — The Department of Economic Development (DED) has automated the fine settlement systems for commercial establishments with a simpler option to enquire and settle fines within five minutes. The new intelligent system replaces the earlier practice of submitting an enquiry and then waiting for up to four working days to allow DED to complete verifications by different sections to complete transactions.
Holders of trade licenses can now submit their enquiries and the system will search and display fines as well as process them without the need for any human intervention. The new system, which combines four levels of verifications into a single step of enquiry and payment, will simplify procedures to save time for customers and help enhance overall ease of doing business in Dubai.
Customers will also have the option to have their fines settled through all branch offices of DED's Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection (CCCP) located in the Business Village A, Al Barsha, Dragon Mart, Al Twar Centre, Dubai Mall and Tecom. Earlier the facility was available only in Business Village A.
Mohammed Ali Rashed Lootah, Executive Director of CCCP, said: "The Department of Economic Development is launching various initiatives in line with the vision of our leadership and the Government of Dubai to provide the best services for commercial establishments, enhance Dubai's competitiveness ranking at the global level and improve happiness across the emirate.”
Lootah added that the new smart system for settlement of fines will improve efficiencies for customers as well as officials. “The earlier system of going through different levels of enquiry caused unnecessary delays for the customer and burdens on DED. However, the system has now been programmed intelligently to handle requests, search for fines and accept or reject a transaction, all without any human intervention.”
The new system can handle requests and transactions relating to 62 kinds of violations and irregularities quickly and accurately. The smart system will enable customers to get all information on pending fines as well as any discounts applicable.
“We will study the needs of customers after the service goes on stream and we will work to eventually turn this online service into a self-service. CCCP will continue to develop its services to keep pace with the strategic plan of the Government of Dubai and the Dubai Government Excellence Program. — SG
