This is in response to the article “Life-threatening feat,” in Saudi Gazette (Aug. 3). This behavior is dangerous but it stands not alone. Visiting the cities one can see waste collectors sitting in the compactors sorting out the waste. The engine is running and one mistake and the sorters are crushed by the hydraulic compactor coming into operation. Nobody cares about safety, efficiency of collection or pollution, nobody punishes this dangerous behavior and occupational safety and health is completely absent. Not in the last place caused by the behavior of workers themselves. Barthol, Online response
