MAKKAH — A total of 12 plasma screens have been installed outside of the Grand Mosque to broadcast any announcements or reminders to the pilgrims. Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, chief of the Presidency of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, said the screens are 2.5 meter wide and one meter in length. “The screens are installed at Haram gates of King Fahd expansion project. They are light in weight and can endure strong and unstable weather conditions. The screens are of high quality and one can see what's displayed on them from 100 meters away,” said Al-Sudais. Sultan Al-Qurashi, chief of the presidency's projects, said the screens will generally broadcast announcements and directions when the Grand Mosque is heavily congested. “The number of Muslims in the world is rising and travel expenses are becoming more and more affordable. We keep witnessing an increase in the number of pilgrims every year, especially in Ramadan and Haj,” said Al-Qurashi. He added the presidency is responsible for serving the pilgrims and ensuring their safety and comfort. “The presidency is greatly supported by the King, the ministries, and the general public. With the unity of the Kingdom to serve the House of Allah, we are able to use the latest technology to facilitate pilgrimage for millions and millions of pilgrims,” said Al-Qurashi.
