I join all Filipinos in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in commemorating the 117th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence. We commemorate this year's anniversary with the theme “Tagumpay sa Pagbabagong Nasimulan, Abot-Kamay na ng Bayan” (Triumphs through reforms, within nation's reach).
Today we recall the heroism of our forebears to inspire us to carry on our collective efforts and support to the reforms that our government has initiated against poverty, corruption, injustice and other modern ills.
The Filipino Community in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to play an important role in this quest for peace, development and stability. Let us all unite on this struggle by working our collective energies and playing our part towards equitable progress and lasting reform for a strong and modern Philippine nation.
I also take this opportunity to express our deep gratitude and appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for hosting the Filipino workers and their families and whose work in various sectors has contributed to the progress of the Kingdom.
The Philippine government is also grateful for Saudi Arabia's vital and tremendous support to the peace process and development in Mindanao. It also acknowledges the Kingdom's role in promoting and building global peace, particularly its initiatives on interfaith and intercultural dialogue around the world.
