Palmeiras wins Brazilian league

SAO PAULO — Veteran playmaker Ze Roberto scored in first-half injury time to help Palmeiras defeat rival Corinthians 2-0 Sunday for its first win in this year's Brazilian league. Rafael Marques also scored a first-half goal for Palmeiras, which had only two points entering the match at Corinthians' Itaquerao stadium. It was the first loss for Corinthians, which had won two of its first three games. Palmeiras hadn't beaten its fierce Sao Paulo city rival since 2011. Local media reported that upset Corinthians fans tried to invade the team's changing rooms to protest after the match. — AP
