RIYADH – The Ministry of Labor is scheduled to begin on Monday the implementation of the compulsory wage protection program in its seventh stage on firms with 170 workers or more, the Saudi Press Agency Reported. This stage will benefit 432,901 workers in 2,171 firms.
Dr. Abdullah Abu Thinain, undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor for inspection and developing work environment, said the ministry is committed to the “wage protection” program in all private sector firms in order to ensure the payment of workers' entitlements on time and specify the salary slabs in all occupations.
He called on the firms to expedite the submission of their workers' data within two months from the date of the beginning of compulsory implementation. Those who fail to do so will be deprived of the ministry's services except the issuance or renewal of work permits. If the firm is late for three months, the ministry will stop providing it with its services and its workers will be allowed to transfer their services to other firms without taking the consent of the current employer even if the work permit has not expired. — SG
