Moustakas, Ventura lift Royals over Reds

KANSAS CITY — Mike Moustakas had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs, and Yordano Ventura pitched seven strong innings as the Kansas City Royals shut out the Cincinnati Reds 3-0 in the Inter-League Tuesday.
Third baseman Moustakas had RBI doubles in the fifth and seventh innings as the Royals moved 2-1/2 games in front of Detroit in the American League Central.
The Reds have lost four straight, matching their season high, and dropped a season-worst three games below .500.
Nationals 8, Yankees 6 (10 innings): Ryan Zimmerman lined a two-out, two-run homer in the 10th inning as the Washington Nationals beat the New York Yankees.
Washington catcher Wilson Ramos's solo homer tied the game at 6-6 in the sixth and extended his hitting streak to 19 games, the longest current streak in the Majors.
The Nationals (23-17) have won nine of their last 11 games while the Yankees (22-18) lost for the seventh time in 11 outings.
Brewers 8, Tigers 1: Ryan Braun, Adam Lind and Aramis Ramirez hit consecutive home runs in a six-run third inning and Jimmy Nelson tamed the Detroit Tigers on three hits over eight innings to power the Milwaukee Brewers to victory. Elsewhere it was: Rays 5, Braves 3; and Twins 8, Pirates 5.
American League
Angels 3, Blue Jays 2: Hector Santiago pitched seven strong innings and designated hitter David Freese snapped a tie with an eighth-inning sacrifice fly as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Toronto Blue Jays.
Santiago (3-2) allowed four hits and two runs (one earned) and right fielder Kole Calhoun homered for the Angels (20-19).
Josh Donaldson had a two-run homer for the Blue Jays (18-23). Orioles 9, Mariners 4: Jimmy Paredes homered and had a career-high four RBIs to lead the Baltimore Orioles to a victory over the Seattle Mariners.
Astros 6, A's 4: Roberto Hernandez took advantage of an early lead and recorded his fifth quality start, and the Houston Astros held on for a win over the Oakland Athletics.
Red Sox 4, Rangers 3: David Ortiz and Mike Napoli teamed up to drive in all of the team's runs in Boston's win over the Texas Rangers.
Indians 3, White Sox 1: Trevor Bauer gave up four hits in 7-1/3 innings and struck out seven as the Cleveland Indians snapped the Chicago White Sox six-game winning streak.
National League
Cardinals 10, Mets 2: Michael Wacha remained undefeated, throwing seven strong innings and adding a safety squeeze to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a rout of the New York Mets.
Wacha (6-0) moved into a tie with New York Mets (23-17) right-hander Bartolo Colon for the National League lead in wins, as the Cardinals (26-13) won for just the fourth time in 10 games.
Giants 2, Dodgers 0: Tim Hudson tossed 6-1/3 innings as four San Francisco pitchers combined on a six-hit shutout during a Giants win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Padres 4, Cubs 3: Catcher Derek Norris' eighth-inning, two-run double led the San Diego Padres to a win over the Chicago Cubs.
Rockies 6, Phillies 5: Nick Hundley hit a tiebreaking home run with two outs in the eighth inning, and the Colorado Rockies edged the Philadelphia Phillies.
Diamondbacks 4, Marlins 2: A.J. Pollock hit a tie-breaking, two-run homer in the eighth inning, leading the Arizona Diamondbacks to a win over the Miami Marlins. — Agencies
