Published in The Saudi Gazette on 05 - 05 - 2015

DAMMAM — Jamia Millia Islamia Alumni Association Dammam Chapter organized its first ever alumni meet recently.
Jamia Millia Islamia, established in 1920, is one of the premier institutions of India. Offering a wide range of courses, the university has established itself as one of the finest seats of learning in the country.
Jamiites of the Eastern Province along with their families attended the program. Chief Guest Ghizal Mahdi, president of Jamia Alumni Chapter, Riyadh, graced the occasion along with senior Jamiites Nisar Ahmad and Nafees Ahmad from Riyadh. They were presented bouquets by senior EP Jamiites Ali Imam, Mahmood Alam Jaffry and Ishratullah.
The program started with the rectal of the Holy Qur'an by Tashkin Akbar, a senior Jamiite from Jubail.
Danish Mirza, who was master of the ceremony, welcomed the guests. Mirza entertained the audience with his Urdu couplets with a touch of humor, which made the program very lively.
Addressing the gathering, Javed Alam, a senior Jamiite from the region, emphasized the need to strengthen the alumni network. He urged the Jamiites to create a platform that could serve as a support system for the Jamiite community in the Kingdom, particularly the Eastern Province.
Mahdi in his keynote address reminded Jamiites of their legacy and what is expected of them. He requested Jamiites to bond strongly and strive continuously to contribute for the betterment of the Jamiite community and their alma mater.
He extended warm wishes to the Eastern Province Jamiites on behalf of the Riyadh chapter and assured them full support for any proposal for making the community stronger and more vibrant.
Nisar Ahmad shared a plan to launch a Jamiite directory by the Riyadh chapter. He urged the alumni to contribute and assist the team in releasing the directory, as this will help not only the Jamiites living in the Kingdom but also in various countries.
Waquarul Haq Safvi, a senior Jamiite from Al-Khobar delivered the vote of thanks. He highlighted the contributions of Tanveer Alam, Anas Khan, Yasir Kidwai and Faisal Nomani for their effort in making the event a success.
