The Ritz-Carlton hotels, resorts, clubs and residences around the world supported Earth Hour by switching off non-essential lighting in key areas of their properties. Ritz Carlton Riyadh participated in the initiative founded by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF). Saudi artist Wael Al Subaeil created a candle light display of the globe. “Community Footprints, The Ritz-Carlton environmental responsibility program, inspires us to be positive, supportive members of the community and sensitive to the environment. The Ritz-Carlton, Riyadh will be one of the 91 Ritz-Carlton properties worldwide that will be participating,” Adel al Mahboob, General Manager of Ritz Carlton Riyadh told Saudi Gazette. Al Subaeil said The Ritz-Carlton, Riyadh has constantly been raising the bar and awareness of Earth hour in Riyadh over the years. “It's great to be part of a huge initiative that has such a positive message for Saudi Youth. You can see with the increase of people from the city that come by the hotel to see the preparations year after year and it's great being able to have a local artist put together an amazing replica of the globe for all the participants to see,” he said. Earth Hour is the single largest, symbolic mass-participation event in the world, inspiring a global community of millions of people across 162 countries and territories to switch off lights.
