Abdulkhaliq Al-Ghamdi Okaz/Saudi Gazette BAHA — Teams from Civil Defense saved 28 people during the last two days after they were stranded in heavy rains that hit Al-Mandaq, Al-Aqeeq, Al-Qura and Baljurashi. Baha Civil Defense spokesman Col. Jaman Al-Ghamdi said Baha experienced considerable rainy and windy weather over the past few days. “On Friday, the general public in Baha was notified of the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment's forecast of heavy rains and unstable weather. Baha has a lot of valleys such as Al-Luhyan, Thirad and Al-Hameed, so when the rain began to fall, the Civil Defense was ready to receive any reports of accidents as teams were deployed to risky areas to warn people,” said Al-Ghamdi. He added the Civil Defense received multiple reports of people being trapped in their vehicles near a valley. “Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported. Rescue teams hauled six vehicles in Al-Qura and saved 12 people and five vehicles in Baljurashi,” said Al-Ghamdi. He cautioned the general public to be careful in such weather and stay away from strenuous roads. “The Civil Defense was also regulating traffic as the weather was foggy and most drivers reported poor visibility on the roads. We received 61 reports of drivers unable to continue driving because of the fog and 54 drivers lost in the alleys of Baha trying to reach the nearest hospital,” said Al-Ghamdi. The spokesman said the Civil Defense teams exert all efforts to provide maximum safety to the people in all regions of the Kingdom.
