Don't worry about our high birth rate. Let's have as many babies as we can!

It has been proven scientifically that fertility in advanced countries is decreasing. In other words, male fertility has started to decrease in advanced countries. However, fertility in Third World countries remains strong.

First World countries are richer than us in terms of money but we have better fertility than they do. They are better than us in technology and production but we are better than them when it comes to the number of children a family has.

In the United Kingdom, a baby is born every five minutes, while in Third World countries a baby is born every minute. The birth rate for the latter is likely to increase in the future with no signs of decreasing. It is apparent that we have a better and higher fertility rate than advanced countries.

I do not agree with columnists who worry about our high fertility and birth rates. We should have as many babies as we can before we even think about birth control laws like those in China and other countries. It will take decades to produce enough babies to fill the Arabian Peninsula.

Some newspapers reports have said that Saudis produce a baby every minute. In my view, this is not true; it is only a dream which we hope will come true in the future. A baby is born in the Kingdom every two minutes, and I say this because, as far as I know, the daily average in the majority of Jeddah's hospitals is between four and eight babies, except at the Maternity and Children's Hospital and other similar hospitals, which are few in number.

If we analyze the numbers, we can see that we cannot possibly produce a baby every minute. However, I am not pessimistic. I am confident that fertility is a big blessing from Allah just like the other resources we have, which will sustain us for hundreds of years if we utilize them in the right way.

That is why I totally disagree with those who have called for issuing a birth control law. I do not agree with columnists who worry about our high fertility and birth rates. We should have as many babies as we can before we even think about birth control laws like those in China and other countries. It will take decades to produce enough babies to fill the Arabian Peninsula. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) will boast about the large number of Muslims on the Day of Judgment.
