Syed Mussarat Khalil Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — The head of Department of Saudi Services for Electro-Mechanical Works Co. (SSEM), Ishtiaq Aziz Hashmi, said that SSEM has supporting Saudi staff members who have been encouraged to join the Health Safety Environment (HSE) field as safety officer or as security officer, while speaking with Saudi Gazette in his office on Sunday. Hashmi, who has 20 years of experience in this field and is an approved trainer from IADC-USA, conducted this CSO training program for all new Saudi staff. The Pakistani national dedication and hard work has won him appreciation and support from SSEM/HR department Manager Osama Al-Numair in this regards. Hashmi elaborated the training programs and said that he is giving First Aider, Fire Fighting, Rigger Level-3, Certified Safety Officer, Certified Safety Engineer, Scaffolding Supervising, Safe Equipment Operation, and Defensive Driving programs to the trainers. SSEM is using HATC Aramco approved institute for certification and personal cards, said Hashmi. He said within one month 15 new Saudi staff has joined SSEM Health Safety Environment (HSE) Department as safety officers for area projects here. The number of candidates who wish to pursue a career in this field is increasing every day. Hashmi said that promoting safety culture in Kingdom started from Defensive Driving Training to change the young generation's mind from reckless driving. “We should start safety information from school level and continue promoting safety culture up to home life,” he said.
