RIYADH — Chairman of the Commission to Promote Virtue and Prevent Vice (Haia) Sheikh Abdullatif Al-Asheikh has ordered an immediate investigation into claims that some of its members attacked a young Saudi man in a Riyadh shopping mall, breaking his nose and jaw and causing him various bruises on the face. Social media circulated photographs showing the victim lying on a hospital bed. The brother of the unidentified victim said the Haia officials asked him to show his ID card but when he refused they took him to their office. They then asked him to give them his mobile phone but he also refused. He said the Haia men locked up his brother in an office where they beat him badly.
