Chelsea crashes out of League Cup

Chelsea suffered another dose of penalty shoot-out misery as Luiz Felipe Scolari's side was dumped out of the League Cup by Championship club Burnley on Wednesday.
The Blues had lost a shoot-out in the Champions League final against Manchester United last season. Burnley won 5-4 on penalties to inflict the shock of the season at Stamford Bridge.
In another drama, Tottenham routed Liverpool 4-2 to enter quarterfinals. Blackburn beat Sunderland 2-1 at the Stadium of Light.
Barca in last 16
Barcelona and Valencia advanced to the last 16 of the Copa del Rey with victories on Wednesday while Villarreal joined fellow topflight side Real Madrid on the sideline after losing to inferior competition.
Polideportivo Ejido drew 1-1 at Villarreal to easily advance after taking the first leg of the fourth-round match 5-0.
League leader Barcelona defeated Benidorm 1-0 and 2-0 on aggregate. Lionel Messi volleyed home the rebound in the 86th minute after goalkeeper Juan Carlos Caballero saved the Argentina international's penalty.
Valencia advanced 7-1 on aggregate following a 3-0 win over Portugalete at Mestalla Stadium.
In matchups between topflight clubs, Sporting Gijon beat Numancia 2-0 to advance 3-0 on aggregate, Mallorca was through 3-1 after a 2-0 win over Malaga, and 23-time champion Athletic Bilbao needed a late penalty to advance 3-2 on aggregate over Recreativo Huelva.
Atletico Madrid squeaked through 1-0 on aggregate after a 0-0 stalemate against Orihuela.
Racing Santander won 2-0 over second-division Murcia to advance 3-2 on aggregate.
In other results, Espanyol advanced 4-2 on aggregate over Celta Vigo, Valladolid advanced 7-3 on aggregate over Hercules, Almeria was through 5-1 over Rayo Vallecano, Real Betis beat Castellon 2-0 to go through 4-0, and Deportivo La Coruna pressed on thanks to a 2-0 win over Elche for a 4-0 aggregate win.
9-man Udinese thru
Udinese survived despite having two players sent-off to beat Reggina on penalties and progress to the Italian Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Luca Togiozzi was the fall guy, missing the 20th penalty in a shoot-out, to give Pasquale Marino's side an 8-7 win. Penalties also played a part in Sampdoria's 2-1 win over Empoli.
In the other match, Napoli beat Salernitana 3-1.
