Saudi Gazette report TAIF – The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) has denied responsibility for removing giant TV screens showing World Cup matches from a number of public parks in Taif recently. “The Haia was not associated with the reported removal of TV screens. None of the Haia members in Taif were involved in the operation,” said Sheikh Abdurahman Al-Jabri, spokesman for the Haia's Makkah region branch. He asked the media to verify the accuracy of their reports before publishing them. “Such reports must have been carried only after verifying their credibility from authentic sources,” Alsharq newspaper quoted him as saying. Al-Jabri was reacting to press reports that a number of Haia men had removed the giant TV screens from Al-Anoud Park and other public parks in Taif, claiming that the screens encouraged mixing of sexes. A number of citizens expressed their surprise and anger at the move and said the screens were made available by the municipality for the public to watch the World Cup matches.
