Published in The Saudi Gazette on 27 - 06 - 2014

RIYADH – Technology plays a big role in our lives, allowing us to perform many tasks quickly. During Ramadan, many users are keen to benefit from the latest technology. Shops sell various devices that offer you access to Islamic software on platforms such as iOS, Android and the Windows Phone system. They include the following:
Holy Qur'an (Mus'haf)
This application displays the pages of the Holy Qur'an in a new way and is easy to use. All you have to do is hold the phone and skim through the Qur'anic verses. You can move quickly between verses and the application offers the option of reminding users to read the holy book. Users can determine the period in which they can aim to complete the recitation of the whole Qur'an and the application will provide them with a schedule of daily recitation tasks to help finish the holy book. It also has the feature of reminding users when it is time to recite the Qur'an. The application is available for free at Apple's App Store, Makkah daily reported.
Qur'an Reader
This app has many distinctive features. You can hear the correct recitation of Qur'anic verses and repeat if necessary. This is useful for teaching a child how to pronounce individual words. Readers can also get translations of the verses and words. There is a feature that helps users to complete the Holy Qur'an accurately with the use of references. The application is available for iOS devices for up to $6.99 (price correct of going to press).
iQuran
The Android version is a platform that offers many Islamic applications because it is easy to develop and publish them using this system. One of its best features is the interpretation of the meanings of Qur'anic verses to English. Also, you can hear the verse and understand the rules for intonation. Through the application, you can place a mark at the verse and pick up where you left off later. The application is available for all Android and iOS devices free of charge, although a premium version is also available.
Holy Qur'an
This app is also available for Windows Phone, which is preferable for many users because it is easy to use. The application uses the copy of the Holy Qur'an printed by the King Fahd Holy Qur'an Printing Press. It contains basic features such as side-by-side translations. The application is available for all platforms free of charge.
My Prayer
This application determines the prayer times according to the location of the device (in longitudes and latitudes) on the basis of various astronomical methods. It contains widgets allowing users to display the prayer times during the day in the lock screen and on the device's main screen. Also, it has a widget that shows the period between prayers. The alerts can be activated and controlled from the program. They can alert the user about the time for the current prayer and remind him of the time for calling people to prayer. The alert time can be programed according to preferences. There is a feature to turn your device on silent mode automatically during prayer time, and each prayer can be set. The application is available for all Android and iOS devices free of charge.
