PML-Q rebels step up fight in party fued
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 26 - 10 - 2008

Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) defiant leaders have geared up their efforts to dislodge party's central command while the Chaudhrys of Gujrat (Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervez Elahi) are firm to defeat revolt against them.
PML-Q forward bloc MPs had a long meeting at PML-Q MP Riaz Fatiana's residence and decided to replace party's central command. PML-Q Senators Muhammad Ali Durrani, Tariq Azim and Nisar Memon are also engaged in lobbying.
A PML-Q delegation comprising Hamid Nasir Chattha, Saleem Saifullah, Jam Yousaf and Ghaffar Qureshi was to call on Elahi at his Islamabad residence but the meeting could not take place as Elahi was not available.
A PML-Q leader said that the party's forward blocs (defectors) in the Senate and National Assembly were getting robust as the MPs were of the view that the Chaudhrys of Gujrat were running party affairs without consulting others. “They have turned the party into personal property and seek no advice from party lawmakers”, the PML-Q leader said.
PML-Q MP Ghous Bux Mahar said that the Chaudhrys were not taking party leaders on board while taking crucial decisions. “If the central command is incompetent to run the party affairs, it should be dissolved so that we could be free to join new parties.”
Mahar noted that most of the party leaders were unhappy over Chaudhrys' style of running the party affairs. “I had advised them to wait till the return of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain from abroad to take up the matter with him but my colleagues decided to send a committee to negotiate with Elahi.”
Some PML-Q lawmakers are inclined to forging an alliance with Pakistan People's Party (PPP) while others are in constant contact with PML-N.
Riaz said that PML-Q MP wanted change in party leadership, therefore Chaudhry brothers should respect the voice of the workers and quit the leadership of the party.
He said the PML-Q has become inactive both inside as well as outside the Parliament in the prevailing circumstances. He stated that the incumbent leadership has badly failed. __
