Heavy storms and lighting disrupted the third round of the New Orleans Classic on Saturday, forcing the tournament into a Sunday of extended play.
Four players, including second-round leader Briny Baird, were sitting atop the leaderboard at eight under par with five others, including 2005 champion Tim Petrovic, at seven under and 12 more a further shot adrift.
Baird, seeking his first PGA Tour win, birdied the last two holes on Friday to take the lead but only made it through three holes on Saturday as play was delayed two hours by the storms.
He now has to play 33 holes on Sunday.
The players were set to return to the course in Avondale, Louisiana early on Sunday morning to complete the third round before the start of the fourth.
Only three of the top 21 players on the leaderboard finished their third rounds. Woody Austin, Australian Peter Lonard and Nicholas Thompson were also at eight under.
Lonard was through four holes, Thompson, a Nationwide Tour graduate, through 10.
Joining Petrovic one shot off the lead were Australians John Senden and Steve Elkington, Argentina's Andres Romero and American John Merrick.Ochoa seizes lead
In Arizona, world number one Lorena Ochoa seized the lead Saturday after the third round of the LPGA Safeway International.
Ochoa, the defending champion, birdied the final hole in a four-under 68 for a 16-under total of 200, one stroke in front of South Korean Jee Young Lee and American Angela Stanford, who had held the lead after both the first and second rounds.
Stanford posted a 70 and Lee had a flawless 67 in her quest for her first victory on US soil.
Former world number one Annika Sorenstam of Sweden had a slightly disappointing 72.
Ochoa and Stanford both birdied the first two holes. Ochoa added more at the fourth and fifth but dropped a shot at the 12th before her birdie at 18.
On Saturday Lee picked up shots at the second, fourth and seventh and added birdies at the 13th and 16th as she posted her third straight 67.Westwood back in lead
In Spain, holder Lee Westwood regained control of the Andalucia Open on Saturday with an exhilarating start to his third round at Aloha.
Five successive birdies from the start in strong gusts, led the Briton to a six-under-par 66 and a one-shot lead on 12-under-par 204. His 19-year-old compatriot Oliver Fisher posted a flawless 67 to sit one shot behind with another Englishman, David Lynn, and Frenchman Thomas Levet, who carded 68s.
Joint overnight leader Peter Hedblom (70) is a further stroke back on 10-under with four more Swedes on nine
