JEDDAH — Government employees can now make extra money by working as tourist guides during their leisure time, according to a senior official of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA). Director of the commission in Makkah Province Mohammed Al-Amri said a government employee can make a daily extra income of more than SR1,000 by working in his spare time as a tourist guide. "The military and civilian government employees can easily obtain the tourist guide license without the need to have a commercial registration," he said. Al-Amri said there are no conditions for obtaining the tourist guide license except that the applicant should be 21 and over. "We are coordinating with the Ministry of Interior to lower this age to 18," he said. The official disclosed that the commission was also working to employ women as tourist guides.
