Saleh Fareed Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — After a tough competition from famous Saudi racers, Saeed Al-Mouri grabbed the first place at the final of the first Saudi Gymkhana Championship (SGC) held here recently. The competition, first of its kind to bring this genre of world-famous racing to Saudi Arabia, was targeting amateur and professional drifters and speed-racers in the Kingdom by allowing them to compete for grand titles and prizes in three rounds in the cities of Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah. Only the top three winners of the qualifying rounds in the three cities qualified for the final SGC championship round in Jeddah, and battled for the grand prize — a 2013 Ford Mustang. The final round gathered around 60 racers and 16 of them qualified for the finale which witnessed excitement and thrill in an unprecedented day but the competition got stuck between Al-Mouri and Muath Alissa and Fadi Hamada. In the final round of the competition, Al-Mouri came in first place after finishing in 1:34.120, while Muath Alissa finhished second (1:34.410) and Fadi Hamada third (1:34.74). In the final ceremony, Abdullah Bakhashab, member of the Saudi Motor Federation, presented the grand prize to Al-Mouri, SR20,000 to the second place winner Muath Alissa and SR10,000 to Fadi Hamada. For the first time in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Gymkhana Championship (SGC) was organized by Al-Jazirah Vehicles Agencies in cooperation with Gymkhana.
