Read scores for Flyers again
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 25 - 11 - 2013

PHILADELPHIA — Right winger Matt Read scored two goals for the second straight game to help the Philadelphia Flyers beat the New York Islanders 5-2.
Right winger Wayne Simmonds and centers Claude Giroux and Brayden Schenn also scored goals for Philadelphia. Center John Tavares and left winger Eric Boulton had New York's goals.
The Flyers (10-10-2) improved to 6-0-1 and are 9-3-2 since a 1-7 start. The Islanders (8-13-3), who are last in the Metropolitan Division, have lost eight of 10.
Wild 3, Jets 2 (SO): Niklas Backstrom made 37 saves in a surprise start as the Minnesota Wild continued its dominance over the Winnipeg Jets.
The Wild goalie also had all the goal support he needed. Center Charlie Coyle had the shootout winner as the Wild defeated its Central Division rivals for the third time this season in a 3-2 win.
Backstrom, sidelined for four games with an upper-body injury, was called upon when fellow netminder Josh Harding was injured in warmups.
Bruins 3, Hurricanes 2 (OT): The Boston Bruins held Carolina without a shot on goal for a stretch of almost 23 minutes but had to go to overtime to beat the Hurricanes 3-2.
Right winger Jarome Iginla, who hit both posts with an open net in the third period, set center David Krejci up for the winner 1:28 into the overtime, allowing the Bruins to beat goalie Cam Ward, who played an outstanding game in the Carolina goal. The loss was the fourth straight overall and sixth in a row on the road for the Hurricanes. The Bruins are leading the Eastern Conference with 32 points.
Canadiens 3, Penguins 2: Montreal left winger Max Pacioretty scored twice and goalie Carey Price made 29 saves as the Canadiens held on to end the Pittsburgh Penguins' four-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory.
Center Tomas Plekanec also scored for Montreal, which won its third in a row. It was the Canadiens' second win in as many nights against the top two teams in the Metropolitan Division, including a 3-2 win Friday in Washington against the second-place Capitals.
Pittsburgh left winger James Neal scored twice, including his third goal on a power play 5:44 into the third period to ruin Price's shutout bid and draw the Penguins to within 3-1.
Blues 6, Stars 1: Goalie Brian Elliott, making only his fifth start in the Blues' 23 games as he splits the goalie duties with Jaroslav Halak, stopped 33 of 34 Dallas shots and the Blues got goals from six different players in a 6-1 victory over the Stars.
Elliott raised his record to 4-0-1 when he has started in goal. In his five November games, he has allowed only six goals on 119 shots.
Ducks 4, Coyotes 2: Anaheim's power play had managed just three goals in 47 road opportunities entering Saturday's game against the Phoenix Coyotes. But the Coyotes had allowed power play goals in eight of their last 10 games and sported the league's third-worst home penalty-killing unit (75 percent).
Even without spiritual leader Teemu Selanne in the lineup, the Ducks got two power-play goals on their first three chances and a superb effort from goalie Jonas Hiller (42 saves) en route to a 4-2 win over the Coyotes in a battle of Pacific Division powers.
Other results: Rangers 2, Predators 0; Maple Leafs 2, Capitals 1 (SO); Senators 4, Red Wings 2; Blackhawks 2, Canucks 1; Sharks 2, Devils 1. — Agencies
