MANY families were affected by the outcome of a campaign to crack down on illegal workers in the country. Families are complaining that they do not have maids. Even families that have a driver and a maid are suffering when they go for a vacation. We are here welcoming the campaign but we have to discuss the negative outcomes, then maybe officials will find a solution to them. Contractors are on top of the list of people who suffered from the campaign. Even before the campaign was carried out they were complaining of a shortage of workers. The Ministry of Housing complained about the same thing, saying the shortage of workers and reduction of issued visas have led to delays in various housing projects. Market experts said following the campaign, workers in the market will increase their prices by 20 percent and citizens will suffer. The campaign has worsened the problem. A local daily published a story on 40 percent of small and medium contracting companies existing in the market that were affected by labor shortages. There was a shortage of doctors of certain specialties in the health sector. Some hospitals and clinics were employing them without transferring their sponsorship. According to a source at the Health Ministry, 170 doctors who worked in key specialties ended their contracts. I hope that officials will find a solution to this problem.
