Saleh Al-Elayani Okaz/Saudi Gazette DAMMAM - A number of citizens who were involved in car accidents caused by manufacturing defects have been compensated. The laboratories and quality control director at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Habeeb Abdulsamad, said the ministry is coordinating with the concerned bodies to track imported products into the country. Abdulsamad said there is continuous coordination between the ministry and the Traffic Department in investigating accidents that are caused by defective spare parts. "It has not yet been proven that the cruise control function of some cars was behind numerous accidents," he said while confirming that during the first nine months of last year, the ministry banned the import of more than 90,000 fake spare parts in addition to 750,000 tires that do not conform to the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization's specifications. He added that there are 59 laboratories that inspect consumer products and two laboratories to inspect used cars and spare parts.
