I am writing with regard to the article "Another extension needed" (Oct. 16) by Dr. Ali Al-Ghamdi. With all due respect to the views of the author, it is clear that the need of the hour is to have more counters and personnel at labor offices in order to process expatriates who wish to rectify their residential status before the expiry of the current amnesty period. Work at these offices should be in shifts, and if not around the clock, then at least two shifts of eight hours each so that people can have their status corrected and work completed in a short period of time.
It must be realized that an individual labor official can only attend to a limited number of people in eight hours of work and that this number will be affected by the number of breaks the official takes along with his capabilities and experience in handling large numbers of people.
