Dr. Khaled Bobshait, President of the General Seaport Authority, has clarified that commercial traffic and stevedoring operations were progressing smoothly at the Jeddah Islamic Seaport, with no queuing vessels waiting in the wharf. He said the port reaches full capacity during Ramadan and Haj seasons, which is normal. The Jeddah port receives 5,000 vessels yearly, and is run by more than 10,000 employees from the private and public sectors. It has more than 58 berths. –SPA The delay in discharging vessels and accumulation of containers result from procedural matters, he said. Bobshait, however, said the Seaport Authority has drawn a new plan to ensure smooth flow of work.
