Samar Yahya JEDDAH — Egypt's Consul General Adel El-Alfy and his wife held a reception to celebrate 6th October 40-year victory anniversary at the country's consulate here on Saturday evening. El Alfy thanked the attendees for joining the ceremony of October 6th Victory and said, “This year's commemoration comes while Egypt is going through one of the most critical periods in its modern history. “The Egyptian people, side by side with the armed forces, are going through a rugged road in order to attain aspirations and hope of a better life and a powerful country, which will no doubt be considered another great victory. “Greetings to the valiant men of the armed forces, the vanguard of the struggle and sacrifice, the protectors of the nation through its endeavor towards development and progress, the custodians of the people's achievements and sanctities all over the ages. “The armed forces liberated the national will and supported the people's desire for freedom and development. “Our prayers to the martyrs of our nation who sacrificed their life for the sake of the homeland. Greetings to the Egyptian people who always stood behind their armed forces. “Greetings to our Arab brothers, and in their forefront the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the great supporter of Egypt in ordeal and distress. “The late King Faisal, God bless his soul, called upon all the Arab nations to support the Arab armies. Saudi Arabia led a political battle in sustaining Arabic resistance against aggression and refuted the superstition of Arab inability to take joint action; henceforth Algeria was not far from Kuwait and Emirates and Sudan was not far from Levant and Iraq. “Once again Saudi Arabia has supported the Egyptian people and this was demonstrated in the speech made by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah on the current development in Egypt and affirming his confidence in Egypt's ability to overcome this situation and reach security.” Ambassador Ahmad Mohammad Tayeb, director general of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Makkah Region said in his speech, “The 6th October victory enthused all Arab nations, not only Egypt, from state of losses to victory. Today, we remember the martyrs of 6th October war who sacrificed their life for the sake of the whole Arab nation. “Egypt is cherished over ages and it has a distinctive standing. Egypt is the land of security. “When the late King Faisal supported Egypt against the enemy during the 6th October war, It was our duty to do so. “At present when Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah supported Egypt, this also highlights Egypt's precious position in Arab world. “Greetings to all Egyptian people from all segments who achieved a lot for the Arab people.” The celebration was headed by El Alfy, Tayeb, and consuls-general of Arab and non-Arab countries in addition to Saudi dignitaries and Egyptians who all came to celebrate the historical victory of October 6th War. The celebration began with recitation of the Holy Qur'an verses followed by the national anthems of Egypt and Saudi Arabia. A documentary was screened on 6th October War and victory which all attendees appreciated and watched very enthusiastically.
