Torres faces lengthy ban
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 01 - 10 - 2013

LONDON — Chelsea striker Fernando Torres could find himself handed an extended ban if the Football Association decides to act over his clash with Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen.
Torres was sent off in the 1-1 draw at Tottenham in the Premier League Saturday after he picked up two yellow cards.
The first of those was for a trip on Vertonghen, but referee Mike Dean took no action against the Spaniard when he raised his hands to the defender immediately afterwards.
If Dean's match report confirms he did not see the incident, the video will be passed to the FA's new independent disciplinary panel, who must decide if the striker's actions constituted violent conduct.
If the panel so decrees, Torres will have his one-match ban - which he will serve when Chelsea visit Norwich Sunday - extended to four matches.
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes he is now getting the best out of Torres after an improved performance from the striker against Spurs.
Torres has started Chelsea's last two games after being left out for Samuel Eto'o for several games and Mourinho feels better fitness is the key to the Spaniard's improvement on the pitch. “Fernando is very strong,” Mourinho said. “Physically, I think he's living a very good moment. He played a very good game. He knows what I think, I don't have to tell him.” — Agencies
