JEDDAH — Motorists have denounced concealed Saher cameras in a number of locations, especially on expressways. They say the cameras should be placed in plain view of the motorists, and violators should accept penalties for their recklessness. A Saudi complained that due to traffic congestion, he once had to stop in the middle of the road after he crossed the traffic light, and the Saher camera lights flashed. Col. Zaid Al-Hamzi, Jeddah traffic police spokesman, denied his department was hiding mobile Saher cameras from motorists' view. He said all laws that the concerned bodies implement are for the benefit of the public. Al-Hamzi said Saher cameras have designated locations, and any mobile Saher camera operator will be penalized if it was proven that he had manipulated the law. He said the traffic police had previously issued instructions about the traffic laws. He said a driver has to come to a complete stop, for two seconds, before he can turn right. In addition, turning left from an extreme right lane is in violation of the traffic law. He added that exceeding the speed limit and running a yellow light are also punishable violations.
