Published in The Saudi Gazette on 11 - 09 - 2008

Majal, Saudi Archirodon (Shoaiba), Saudi Oger (Rabigh), Al-Nawras Movenpick Resort and Hanco Maintenance emerged victorious in last week basketball event at Sport Village Sports Hall here. This prestigious tournament is organized by the Filipino Basketball Association (FBA).
The two and a half month long tourney is principally sponsored by Enjaz (the remittance services of Bank Albilad). Other companies supporting the event are Al-Hussaini & Al-Yahya Investment Group (Seiko Watches), Samsung Electronics-UMG, Royal Brunei, CDC Holdings/Quadrillon Sales, Inc., Giordano Fashions, Sky Freight Forwarders, Pueblo De Oro Development Corporation of Cagayan De Oro City, Ay Sarap & La Paz Batchoy Restaurants and Amoudi Almesari Tailoring.
Saudi Oger Jeddah, led by Mario Basilio and Joe Dollete, failed to succeed in their first assignment against the strong team of Al-Majal Servicemasters of Ken Bautista and Ninio Ramos, losing 87-107.
The first 20 minutes ended at 81-46 in favor of Al-Majal while the second half was 36-51 on Saudi Oger's side. Best scorers for Al-Majal were Reyes, Amir, Carpio, Villegas and Manguerra, while Tolentino, Manalansan, Turla, David and Del Pilar made good points for Saudi Oger.
In another thriller, Saudi Archirodon (Shoaiba) of Willie Corpuz won by only a hairline over an equally strong Sharbatly Corporation, headed by Alex Torremania and Alex Solero, 75-73, in overtime. The team tied 65-65 at the end of regulation period. Viray, Tolentino and Inigo made it for Sarco Shoaiba inspite of the strong showing of Del Rosario and Tacuboy of Sharbatly Corporation.
Alhamrani-Fuchs, led by coach Marwel Blas, lost to the fast moving players of Al-Nawras Movenpick Resort, 104-92. Al-Nawras Movenpick ace players Osorio, Carpio, Romano, Bristol, Cruz and Francisco led their team to win despite the good performance of Villanueva, Dimaronsing and Tayag of Fuchs.
In another encounter, Hanco Maintenance of Salah Qandeel, Edgar Ainza and Jun Nieva lambasted their rivals Al-Muhaidib Contracting Company of Robert De Guzman and Rodolfo Noceja, 72-58. Topscorers for Hanco Maintenance were Naguit, Cruzat, Costuna, Cabello and Puertellano.
