Yemen forms supreme military committee under Arab coalition leadership, Al-Alimi announces
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 10 - 01 - 2026

Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi announced on Saturday the formation of a supreme military committee under the leadership of the Arab Coalition to Restore Legitimacy, tasked with preparing, organizing, and commanding all military forces and formations for the next phase should militias reject peaceful solutions.
According to Yemen's official news agency Saba, the committee will oversee the preparation, equipping, and operational command of all military units, while providing the necessary support to ensure readiness in the event of continued escalation by armed groups.
The announcement followed Al-Alimi's confirmation that the process of taking control of military camps in Hadramout, Al-Mahrah, the temporary capital Aden, and other liberated governorates has been completed.
He called on all Yemenis to unite ranks, exercise wisdom, and mobilize efforts toward restoring state institutions and ending the Houthi's coup.
In a nationally televised address, Al-Alimi said the "difficult decisions" taken in recent days were not intended as a show of force, but rather to protect civilians and safeguard their dignity at a critical moment requiring clarity, responsibility, and strict adherence to the constitution, the law, and the transitional framework.
The council president reiterated that the "just southern cause" remains a top priority for the Presidential Leadership Council and the government.
He said the decision to respond positively to calls from southern groups to hold a comprehensive Southern Dialogue Conference in Riyadh — under Saudi sponsorship — reflects appreciation for the long struggle and sacrifices of southern Yemenis.
"Their sacrifices will not be in vain. The just southern cause has never been questioned during this phase, and their rights have never been denied," Al-Alimi said, adding that the state remains committed to addressing the issue within the transitional framework, with regional and international guarantees and a responsible partnership that preserves dignity and secures the future.
Al-Alimi stressed that the government will support the outcomes of the southern dialogue conference "with full responsibility and sincerity," calling on those who have "lost their way" to surrender their weapons, return seized assets, and rejoin the state.
He also instructed all governors to intensify efforts, exercise maximum discipline, and ensure the continuity of essential services and the improvement of living conditions during what he described as an exceptional and sensitive phase.
Strengthening security, closing any security gaps, and protecting social peace, Al-Alimi said, are non-negotiable national obligations, necessary to preserve state cohesion, reinforce stability, and enhance Yemen's ability to confront ongoing threats.
He reaffirmed Yemen's commitment to close coordination with the Saudi-led coalition and the international community to combat terrorism, prevent arms smuggling, secure maritime routes, and counter cross-border threats.
Al-Alimi concluded by renewing his appreciation for Saudi Arabia's continued support for Yemen, emphasizing the Kingdom's role in supporting Yemen's legitimate government, unity, security, and stability amid shared regional challenges.
