Cristiano Ronaldo closes a chapter — but is it the end of his Al Nassr story?
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 27 - 05 - 2025

RIYADH — The question isn't whether Cristiano Ronaldo gave his all this season — he did. Goals, assists, minutes, leadership. But when the curtain fell on yet another trophyless campaign for Al Nassr, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner left fans, pundits, and perhaps even teammates wondering: is this the end of his chapter with Al Nassr?
Ronaldo's post on X was short, cryptic, and classic CR7: "This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all."
A line packed with ambiguity, but also intent. It's the kind of message that makes headlines — and leaves room for speculation.
This chapter is over.
The story? Still being written.
Grateful to all. pic.twitter.com/Vuvl5siEB3

So, what exactly did he mean?
Let's start with the facts. Since joining Al Nassr in January 2023, Ronaldo has spent two and a half seasons in Saudi Arabia.
In that time, he's lit up the Pro League with goals — securing the Golden Boot in back-to-back seasons, including this one. His performances have been anything but ordinary: clinical finishes, match-winning moments, and a relentless pursuit of excellence at 40 years old.
But the silverware? It never came.
Al Nassr have now gone trophyless in each of Ronaldo's full seasons — falling short in the Saudi Pro League, the King's Cup, the AFC Champions League, and even the Super Cup.
For a player defined by titles at Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Juventus, it's a frustrating reality.
So again, what is this chapter he's closing?
Is it just the season?
Is it his time with Al Nassr?
Or is it a personal reset — a silent vow to rewrite the ending?
Ronaldo's individual numbers still scream elite. He leads the league in goals. He continues to dominate the spotlight. And yet, football is judged by trophies. And so far, the team around him hasn't delivered at the level his legacy demands.
Is Al Nassr capable of building a title-winning squad around him in time?
Does Ronaldo believe in the project anymore?
And if he doesn't, where does the story go next?
He's still the face of Saudi football's global rise. Still the most followed athlete on Earth. Still capable of changing games in a heartbeat. But the clock ticks louder now. And if there's one thing Ronaldo has never accepted, it's standing still.
For now, all we have is a message. Three lines. No clear answers.
But then again, that's always been Ronaldo's way. He makes you ask. And then he makes you watch.
