RIYADH — Saudi Arabia welcomed the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, expressing optimism that the move will contribute to restoring peace and stability in the region. In a statement on Saturday, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs commended both nations for exercising restraint and prioritizing wisdom, voicing hope that the agreement will pave the way for long-term security and prosperity for both countries and their people. The Kingdom reaffirmed its consistent position in support of resolving disputes through dialogue and peaceful means, in line with the principles of good neighborliness. Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed that Saudi Arabia played a role in the ceasefire negotiations, highlighting Riyadh's position as a mediator in the conflict. The efforts reportedly helped bring about the ceasefire after days of heightened military tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors. Earlier in the day, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held phone calls with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The discussions focused on easing tensions, halting military confrontations, and encouraging diplomatic resolution of the crisis. The ceasefire comes after a period of escalated hostilities, including missile exchanges and drone strikes, that drew regional and international concern over the risk of broader conflict.
