The officers are tasked with protecting civilians, maintaining public order, and aiding in the reform and strengthening of Haiti's law enforcement agencies. Their responsibilities also include patrolling, community policing, and training local law enforcement personnel. Kenya initially deployed 400 officers to Haiti in June, with Kenyan President William Ruto expressing confidence in their ability to contribute to lasting peace in the country, citing their professionalism, integrity, and expertise. Despite facing significant challenges, the Kenyan police have made progress in improving security and stability in Haiti, which has long been plagued by gang violence and political unrest. Haiti has struggled with rampant kidnappings, armed robberies, and killings, leaving residents in a state of constant insecurity. The country has repeatedly sought international support to restore order and security. The US has pledged $300 million for the UN-led Multinational Security Support mission in Haiti, while Canada has contributed $123 million, including $80.5 million for the UN trust fund.
