RIYADH — Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri, president of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) and chair of the Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons, recently met with representatives from the embassies of several labor-sending countries to the Kingdom. The gathering, held at the HRC headquarters in Riyadh, was attended by delegates from 14 embassies. It focused on the Kingdom's significant strides in human rights protection and its comprehensive efforts to combat human trafficking. Dr. Al-Tuwaijri highlighted the leadership's unwavering dedication to addressing these crimes and stressed the importance of collaboration between the HRC and diplomatic missions to enhance awareness of human trafficking crimes, identify their indicators, and improve reporting mechanisms. The meeting provided a detailed overview of the Kingdom's initiatives aimed at eradicating human trafficking and enhancing labor rights, while also seeking ways to fortify these efforts. Dr. Al-Tuwaijri explained the characteristics of human trafficking crimes and the strategies and procedures the Kingdom employs to prosecute perpetrators and protect victims' rights. The Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons, consisting of various governmental bodies within the HRC, is responsible for creating methods to identify trafficking victims, ensuring their referral to appropriate agencies, and raising public awareness about these crimes.
