RIYADH — At the recent launch of the World Health Organization's Health Emergency Appeal 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Supervisor-General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), emphasized the critical need to protect civilians, particularly children, women, and the elderly, from global threats. He pointed out that these groups are increasingly vulnerable due to conflicts and disasters, which have forced millions to flee their homes and rendered them unable to meet their basic needs. Addressing the gathering via video conference, Dr. Al Rabeeah underscored the significant role of the strategic partnership between WHO and KSrelief in providing comprehensive relief during health crises. He reflected on the contributions of KSrelief since its inception in 2015, noting the implementation of 2,670 projects in 95 countries at a total cost exceeding $6.5 billion. He mentioned that KSrelief is collaborating with WHO on five additional projects across three WHO regions. Dr. Al Rabeeah called for urgent action and the involvement of a broad spectrum of donors to save lives and secure a healthier, brighter future for everyone. The event was attended by notable figures, including WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, UN Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths, and various WHO representatives from around the world.
