NEOM 2023: Shaping the future today
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 31 - 12 - 2023

JEDDAH — As the sun sets on 2023, the horizon of northwest Saudi Arabia is aglow with the promise of NEOM, a futuristic vision rapidly morphing into a tangible reality.
This year, NEOM's map began taking definitive shape, with key destinations announcing their emergence and the first, Sindalah, poised to welcome the world in 2024. Let's delve into this extraordinary journey.
Norlana: A Harmony of Luxury and Nature
The year witnessed the unveiling of Norlana, an emblem of ultra-modern living. Perched elegantly on the Gulf of Aqaba, Norlana promises a blend of contemporary luxury and advanced technology for its 3,000 residents.
With 711 residential properties including mansions, apartments, and beach villas seamlessly integrated into the natural dunes, Norlana is not just a community but a haven of serene connection with nature.
The crown jewel is its 120-berth marina, destined to be a superyacht hub, complete with a members club offering unparalleled dining and waterfront views.
Utamo: Where Art Meets the Mountains
NEOM's commitment to merging creativity with its unique landscape was embodied in Utamo, an artistic and entertainment haven.
Nestled in a mountain along the Gulf of Aqaba, Utamo is set to transform entertainment with its blend of natural beauty and technological innovation.
A garden promenade leads to a grand hall, setting the stage for unforgettable experiences in music, art, and design.
Siranna: A Luxurious Coastal Escape
2023 also marked the birth of Siranna, an exclusive destination combining elegance and innovation. With 65 hotel keys and 35 residences, Siranna offers an unmatched Red Sea experience.
Its architecture, featuring hexagonal pillars, is both striking and harmonious with the rugged coastal terrain, making it a secluded paradise for discerning guests.
Epicon: Architectural Marvel on the Desert Coast
The year brought to light Epicon, NEOM's latest luxury coastal destination. With two awe-inspiring towers and a tranquil resort, Epicon is set to redefine hospitality and architecture.
It stands as a mirage of luxury rising from the desert, offering an exclusive hotel and residences along with beach villas, setting a new standard of indulgence.
Leyja: Preserving Nature's Grandeur
In Leyja, NEOM's ecotourism aspirations took form. This destination, flowing from the Gulf of Aqaba into a majestic natural valley, is a testament to NEOM's commitment to nature conservation, with 95% of its area preserved.
Leyja's design and construction techniques ensure seamless integration with the landscape, enhancing Saudi Arabia's ecotourism footprint.
Sindalah and International Expansion
The imminent opening of Sindalah heralds NEOM's foray into becoming a global yachting destination, bolstered by a partnership with Burgess.
Additionally, NEOM's international reach expanded with its first overseas office in London, serving as a hub for European business and collaboration.
Green Milestones and Infrastructure Progress
A significant milestone was the arrival of wind turbines for the world's largest green hydrogen plant, signaling NEOM's commitment to sustainable energy.
Major infrastructure projects including roads, utilities, and a hospital have been completed, and substantial investments have been poured into the development of residential communities, the Port of NEOM, and green energy.
Setting New Global Standards
NEOM is not just building structures but redefining the standards of business, livability, and conservation. It aims to create a future where human and environmental needs are in harmony, promising a new chapter in global trade and sustainable living.
As 2023 draws to a close, NEOM stands not as a distant dream but as a burgeoning reality, a testament to human ingenuity and a beacon of a sustainable future. With each passing day, NEOM is not just shaping its map but also the contours of a new world.
